Asthma inhalers in schools - change in law from 1 October 2014

In the wake of a long campaign and consultation exercise the law has been amended to allow schools to provide pupils with access to emergency inhalers. This takes effect from 1 October 2014.

To date there does not appear to have been any guidance issued, however the consultation included a draft guidance document (available here).

NAHT believes that clear, concise guidance is needed and that this should be made available to schools as early as possible in September. The association has contacted the Department of Health to press for this and is also in contact with Asthma UK, the charity supporting those with the condition.

Members will be informed as soon as further news is available.
