Ofsted launch ‘Better inspection for all’ consultation

On 9 October, Ofsted launched Better inspection for all, a consultation on the future of inspection from September 2015.

In particular, the document outlines proposals for:

  • a common inspection framework for all (early years settings on the early years register, maintained schools and academies, non-association independent schools and FE and skills providers);
  • the introduction of short inspections for maintained schools, academies and FE and skills providers that were judged good at their previous inspection; and
  • full inspection of non-association independent schools within a three-year period.

The consultation also seeks views on inspection methodology and whether the quality of curriculum provision should be a separate judgement.

NAHT will be producing a response on behalf of the membership as a whole but it is essential that Ofsted also receives responses from as many individual school leaders as possible. We would be grateful if members would download the consultation document, send initial thoughts to policy@naht.org.uk and then submit a personal response by the deadline.
