  • A032 - Parental leave
    03 September 2012 Parental leave is the right of the employee to take time off work to look after a child or make arrangements for the child's welfare, where the employee has parental responsibility for the child (including where parental responsibility has been acquired under The Children's Act 1989). Parental leave is unpaid.
  • A031 - Paternity Leave
    24 January 2012 Paternity leave is granted for the purposes of caring for a child or supporting the child's mother, or for the purposes of caring for an adopted child or supporting the child's adopter. The new rights means that fathers (or co-parents in the case of same sex relationships) are eligible for a period of 2 weeks paid paternity leave providing he/she meets the criteria.

    24 January 2012 Includes guidance and policy for head teacher, deputy head, assistant head, classroom teachers and support staff.
  • A030 - Adoption leave guidance
    24 January 2012 The Employment Act 2002 introduced new statutory rights to leave and pay for adoptive parents subject to meeting the criteria. The statutory scheme does not extend to stepchildren adoptions or foster care adoptions. (The school may wish to extend the Occupational Maternity Pay Scheme to the Adoption scheme.)
