Pupil Achievement through the Eyes of Financial Benchmarking

benchmarking

Course description

Financial benchmarking can show school governors and leaders whether their budgets are structured appropriately to deliver achievement and attainment which ranks so highly in the Ofsted evaluation schedule.  This course has been specially designed for the NAHT and will show delegates how to exploit fully the school's financial structures alongside national achievement standards and value-added measures to draw conclusions about management effectiveness.

Pre-session preparation/equipment

Some pre-course work will be required and a detailed step-by-step briefing will be provided.  Participants should expect to devote a maximum of 1-1½ hours on this pre-course task.  Participants should bring their own laptops.  An exclusive toolkit and templates will be provided on a memory stick on the day.

Please Note

The training is limited to a maximum of 7 schools - up to 3 people per school - to allow for one-to-one tuition using your own school's budget data on your own laptops.

Aims of this course

  • conduct a structural financial review, which is educationally driven, using a bespoke analysis tool and the school's benchmarking website as required by the SFVS

  • using evaluation techniques to assess whether resource allocations are balanced appropriately to deliver pupil achievement targets

  • develop a bespoke action plan with one-to-one support from the facilitator which will identify issues of strength and concern and suggest areas for further investigation on returning to school

  • evaluating, with transparent supporting facts and data, whether your school is delivering appropriate educational outcomes in relation to the costs incurred

  • enabling you to comply with the requirements of SFVS

  • enabling you to compare your school's outcomes against other schools of similar pupil profile and evaluate whether resource allocation is helping you achieve attainment and achievement goals similar to, or better than, your benchmarking cohort

On completion you will have:

  • a detailed analysis of your school's costing structure, prepared by the course facilitator, typed and forwarded to you within three weeks of attending the programme

  • a list of issues to investigate further or raise and discuss with the governing body and leadership team

  • the skills to benchmark and evaluate independently in subsequent years
