Course description

With inspections focusing increasingly on education attainment and achievement, it is important to ensure there are very close links between budget allocation and monitoring decisions and school development plan objectives for educational outcomes.  This one-day course presents a range of techniques to enable school leaders to make sure they have appropriate financial procedures and routines in place to support delivery of those educational outcomes.

Aims of this course

 
  • understanding basic budget setting building blocks necessary to construct school budgets that serve the school development plan

  • aligning budget setting to the school's own education delivery model to ensure finance supports school development plan objectives

  • developing and using personalised financial KPIs to monitor implementation of school development plan objectives through regular budget monitoring

  • understanding the importance of profiling budget performance and its links with cash flow management, and create/improve the budget profile for school

  • understanding the key factors in developing robust monitoring and reporting procedures

  • examining a sample budget report and, with others and tutorial support, interpret what the report reveals about the school's performance

  • preparing an action plan for implementation on return to the workplace to influence and improve budget setting monitoring and reporting procedures
