SEN Measuring Progress

Course description

This new course will address the practicalities of judging progress for pupils working below age-related expectations.  Confusion over current Government thinking will be addressed and practical solutions for schools will be offered in order to maintain high expectations whilst setting realistic targets.

 

This training is appropriate for both mainstream and special schools in meeting the challenges and coping with demands on schools to make levels of progress in this area.

Aims of this course

  • understanding the history and politics of progression for pupils working below age related expectations
  • developing a clear understanding of what the data is for
  • understanding the role of standardisation and moderation in making judgements
  • learning how to build up a picture over time (formative)
  • learning how to make a reliable annual judgement (summative)
  • exploring what progression for Early Years pupils working below the national norms may look like 
  • analysing the available data to give a clear picture of individual, cohort and whole school progression
  • discuss the use of 'other' data such as Health and Behaviour
