NAHT believes that School Business Managers (“SBM”) who are part of the school leadership team (“SLT”) should be paid on a similar salary range as other SLT staff. Many SBMs are paid under the arrangements for local authority staff and not on ranges used for the school’s SLT. The job evaluation schemes used to determine grading in an LA context are designed to avoid pay discrimination but do not reflect pay comparability in the school context. The schemes normally allow for grading appeals.
