Education secretary Nicky Morgan has confirmed the appointment of Anne Longfield OBE as the next children’s commissioner for England.
Following the appointment Russell Hobby, general secretary of school leaders’ union NAHT said: “Over many years Anne has shown herself to be a tireless and effective campaigner for the rights of young people. NAHT believes that she will continue the excellent work of her predecessor Dr Maggie Atkinson.
“NAHT is looking forward to working with Anne now on our shared and publicly stated goals of improving early years care for young children and ensuring that the voices of children are heard at the highest levels of government.
“All the evidence shows that if we’re serious about improving the lives of children, investment needs to be made as early as possible. It’s also essential for highly qualified and capable professionals have the tools and the support necessary to educate and care for our young people.”
