Advice for schools to commission external reviews of governance

Where leadership and governance are judged less than good by an inspection report, Ofsted will now require that the school commission an 'external review of governance' to review how effective the governance of the school is and what needs to change in order to support the school to improve. Schools have reported variable experiences of commissioning these and so the National College have now developed two sets of advice:

1. Advice on how to arrange a review that can be found on the following link:

https://www.gov.uk/reviews-of-school-governance

2. Advice on the process that should be followed including standards templates for commissioning a review and a model template for a report that can be found on this link:

https://www.gov.uk/external-reviews-of-governance-whats-involved

NAHT has had the opportunity to feed into the development of these and believes that this advice will be very useful for members
