A recent announcement by the Department for Education (DfE) implied that the English and Maths retakes in 2017 would be open to all. As a result, Pearson received enquiries from schools who wanted to know if they could enter Y11 or even Y10 students on the legacy specifications next summer.
But on further investigation, the DfE has confirmed that there was an error in the wording of the English and maths retakes.
In section 1.2 of the document, the 'or' should be 'and'.
The section currently says:
Those who have not previously taken the examination for these qualifications and are not yet 16 or who have good reason for not having taken the examination when planned.
After correction, it should say:
Those who have not previously taken the examination for these qualifications and are not yet 16 and who have good reason for not having taken the examination when planned.
The document will be corrected in a revised announcement.
