Key aspects of section 5 Ofsted inspections from September 2012

Ofsted’s framework for school inspection has been revised, with effect from September 2012.

This guidance note identifies a number of the key changes:

1. notification;

2. informing parents of the inspection;

3. replacement for the pre-inspection briefing
   the views of parents of registered pupils;

4. performance management and professional development;

5. how schools will be judged;

6. implications for a school judged as "requires improvement";

7. schools judged to be “Satisfactory” under the previous Framework;

8. overall effectiveness: the quality of education provided in the school;
