Coasting Schools update: February 2017

Light bulb website.jpg

Coasting schools have now been in the public domain since 2015 and were introduced as part of the government's school intervention strategy.

The first tranche of coasting letters were sent to schools in January 2017 so schools that have been designated as such should now be aware of their 'coasting' status. It is important to note however that a school is not coasting until it has been notified as such by the Secretary of State.

This advice paper sets out the coasting thresholds for both primary and secondary schools for the years 2014, 2015 and 2016. It also covers areas that may be of concern to schools and our members - the data itself; the criteria; the possibility of raising an appeal; the implications of being a 'coasting' school and what you can to do if you are contacted about being a 'coasting' school.
