Bursars and School Business Managers

Pensions Meeting for SBMs and Bursars

Negotiations are underway with public sector pension schemes.  The NAHT is currently working with other teacher unions on the sector specific negotiations for the Teachers’ Pension Scheme.

Given that School Business Managers / Bursars are not generally part of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme, we need to consider what support the Association can offer as part of the ongoing negotiations.

We would like to discuss with a small group of SBMs / Bursars how the campaign would be best moved forward for SBMs / Bursars and their specific pension scheme.  If you would be interested in being part of this discussion please contact Kat Millard on 01444 472461 or email kat.millard@naht.org.uk. The meeting will be on Wednesday 23 November in the afternoon at the Doubletree Hilton, London West End – we envisage starting about 2.00 pm and the meeting lasting about two hours.

Unfortunately there won’t be a dial in facility on this occasion, and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

We really would welcome your participation (our apologies for the short notice) and look forward to hearing back from you at the earliest opportunity.

Welcome to the NAHT Bursars and School Business Managers homepage. NAHT can support you in your role through:

  • Expert advice and information on health and safety, staffing, pay, budgeting, coping with local authorities and guidance in matters relating to the relationship between the headteacher/principal and the governing body;

  • Excellent publications, including Linking Finance To Your School Development Plan;

  • Influencing pay and conditions on a national basis through our membership of the Social Partnership;

  • Review and analysis of the Section 52 budget statement returns made by every local authority in England to compare local funding from one authority to another which helps us to answer queries from members and also put questions to the government;

  • Representation at Schools Funding Implementation Group. This is a DCSF group making national decisions on school funding;

  • Representation on Bursar Development Group which is managed by the TDA and is set up to develop and promote the role of bursars;

  • Supporting NCSL on the Certificate in School Business Management and Diploma in School Business Management;

  • Training courses such as Financial Management Standards in Schools and How to Survive Them, a course that cuts through unnecessary bureaucracy and demonstrates how these standards can be met.

  • Access to NAHT Schoolquote - an online procurement service
