A Guide to Headquarters

Our purpose:

  • Passion

  • Protection

  • Voice

  • Support

  • Connection

We exist to make the job a great one, to be at your side in times of trouble, to say the things you want said, to help you do your work well, and to bring you together for strength in numbers.

All parts of the Association contribute to these goals, especially branches and regions. HQ has a specific input within the wider structure.

Our structure:

HQ is organised into five directorates plus Human Resources, each are led by a member of our Senior Leadership Team:

Advice and Representation (John Hakes)

Advising members on management, legal and employment issues; representation from Regional Officers or Solicitors.

Democracy and Governance (Magnus Gorham)

Helping branches and regions to work, ensuring that members views are heard.

Policy and Campaigns (Kathy James)

Developing NAHT policy, analysing, influencing and negotiating on government policy and initiatives; shaping PR.

Commercial and Member Services (Clare Cochrane)

Keeping members informed through the web, publications, emails; recruiting

new members; managing our commercial activities; delivery of CPD, conferences and bespoke training.

Corporate Services (Jim Horlock)

Responsible for Finance; Health & Safety; General Office; IT; Branch and Regional funding.

Human Resources (Lisa Cockram)

Supporting managers and staff throughout the employment cycle. Clearly each directorate must work closely with the others in order to achieve our aims – policy will inform advice and advice will highlight where policy needs to work, for example.
