The staff in the department, which includes the seventeen (17) regional officers across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, deals with matters related to the professional rights and responsibilities of members.
Examples of the issues that the department deals with include:
appointments; redundancy; competency; grievances; funding; admissions; health and safety; exclusions; social inclusion; special educational needs; EAZ's; race/cultural diversity. (This is neither an inclusive nor exclusive list.) These matters may relate to the member themselves, their staff (both teaching and support), the governing body or their employer (generally the Local Education Authority).
The department provides confidential and discreet individual support to all members. Officers in the department are available to talk to groups of members (and others) on a variety of subjects related to their work responsibilities. Officers also represent the Association at meetings of Government departments and other national bodies, seeking to influence legislation and protect the interests of members.
