Significant pension developments

Following the action on the 30th November we have been negotiating actively and quietly with the government. We have not signed a deal - we cannot and would not make such a decision behind closed doors. We have reached a point where we have produced some 'parameters' for the pension scheme.

NAHT) has confirmed it will seek views from its membership on the outcome of yesterday's pension talks but warned it could take a lot to persuade school leaders to swallow it.
Pensions campaign - school business managers

School Business Managers (SBMs) are generally members of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). The NAHT is not part of the statutory negotiating machinery involved with the LGPS, and school business managers were not balloted over industrial action. The recent ballot was directly concerned with the Teachers Pension Scheme, where the NAHT is part of the negotiating mechanism.

NAHT welcomes Gove support with pensions row

Speaking at the annual conference of the NAHT in Brighton on Sunday (May 1 2011) Mr Gove acknowledged that teachers had an unspoken contract with the government on pensions. Mr Gove poured praise on the work of the nation's head teachers and said that one size (did) not fit all when promoting public sector terms and conditions. He added that he would be championing the case of the profession to those holding the government's purse strings.

Life after Headship: Interims and Consultants

One of the most common post-headship careers is consultancy: working as an adviser to schools, government or business, either independently or as an employee of a big education service provider. Another growing and closely related area is interim headship, in which experienced leaders run schools that need someone at the wheel while they recruit a permanent replacement.
