Following the changes introduced in 2015, it was agreed that salary bands that determine the rate of member contributions within the Teachers’ Pension Schemes would increase annually in line with Consumer Price Inflation. In so doing, it is hoped it will reduce the potential for members drifting through the tiers as a result of standard national pay increases. Both the Department for Education (England and Wales) and the Department of Education (Northern Ireland) have recently announced the salary bands will be increased by one per cent effective from 1 April 2017. Our advice looks at the amended bandings.
