School business leaders play a vital and unique role in helping to guarantee the success of the school. This council ensures our policy work covers the bigger picture of leadership and management in school and reflects the needs and views of school business leaders.
Our council members are located across the country and work in primary schools, secondary schools, multi-academy trusts, stand-alone academies and maintained schools. They steer and develop our policy work so that we champion the views and needs of this growing sector of membership.
The group helps to develop our specialist courses on aspects of school business management and our annual conference for school business leaders. The council works with our representation and advice team to ensure we provide relevant guidance for the changing and challenging role. It also works closely with the Institute of School Business Leadership, formerly NASBM, to support the profession.
Areas of focus for the council include the following:
- The pay and conditions of school business leaders, and how to ensure they can be rewarded at a level similar to others in the leadership team
- The ever-changing role of school business leaders in an evolving school system
- The professional frameworks and professional development of school business leaders, including working with the Institute of School Business Leadership to develop a new set of qualifications
- The issue of school funding.
SBL webinars
As part of our offer for our school business leader (SBL) members, NAHT runs three free, online webinar events a year. The webinars provide an opportunity to hear about NAHT’s work for SBLs, network with colleagues and hear from experts on key issues affecting SBLs.
